A few blocks north, the somber Field of Empty Chairs memorial outside the Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum features 168 bronze chairs, one for each of the victims of the 1993 bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building. Inside the museum, exhibits include moving eyewitness accounts and news footage.
The strip of Western Avenue between 36th Street and Wilshire Boulevard is home to a cluster of shops and moderately priced rib shacks, pizzerias and Mexican cafes. In downtown's Bricktown, restaurants and bars populate vintage red-brick warehouses along a leafy canal that gives the neighborhood a European feel.
